Of Eagles and Men (Conclusion)

Part 4 – True Love and Family

And now the continuation of our “story”  the following weekend…. This “episode”  starts on a sad note though,  we lost my “great-aunt-in-law?” and technically not even that really…..  but there’s a quote that I love by one of my favorite authors- Richard Bach  that goes “The bond that links your true family is not one of blood, but of respect and joy in each other’s life. Rarely do members of one family grow up under the same roof “

so “Aunt Bea”  was  my wife’s, Father’s  “girlfriend”’s, mother’s,  brother’s  wife…..yeah ok you figure that out I’ll keep writing… let me know when you figure it out, but to us no matter what she was “Aunt Bea, and she passed away at the young age of 86  She and her husband were married for over 65 years and were just  as much in love  before she died as the day they were married.  We had gone on a cruise with them a  few years back and    fell in love with them both.  Aunt Bea and Uncle Joe… Uncle Joe is a WWII Navy Vet and I can sit and listen to his stories about EVERYTHING forever and never once get bored… but I was always so  impressed with their love for each other.  It really does remind me of my wife and I, and while I know we can’t have 65 years together unless there is a miraculous breakthrough in  science and medicine that will make me live past  oh say 60 or so   our time together will be  much shorter than Joe and Bea’s  but  they gave us a great example of  how to love each other, and I’ll never forget Joe getting up  and speaking at our wedding, he shared with me the “key” to a  long and happy marriage.. it was simple , as most things that really work are….. his advice to me was just two words “Yes Dear”  and I’ve used them, boy have I ever !!  Aunt Bea, and all of my family I wish I could have been there for the ceremonies and the  celebration of  life,  I was there in spirit as you know and Aunt Bea,  be at peace. For you and  Uncle Joe – Non c’e luttu senza rrisu e non c’e matrimoniu senza piantu.   (There is no mourning without smiling, there is no marriage without tears) . Uncle Joe  you  are surrounded by many  loved ones,  but I know nothing can fill the hole that Bea left,  I  cannot imagine the pain  of losing the love of your life, my heart  goes  out to you completely and I hope  that  you are able  to find peace knowing that  she loved you  as much as you her and she will be in your heart forever and you hers,  your love and the  example you set as a couple  have inspired many people to  “Vive Bene, Spesso L’Amore, Di Risata Molto”.

Aunt Bea and Uncle Joe. RIP Aunt Bea.

Part 5 – Friday Night Lights

So  Christy and our son Tyler (technically  my stepson, but  to me, he is my son!)  got on a plane  to go to  San Diego to be with the  family  and celebrate Bea’s  life.  Easton and I stayed home, I was in a training class all week and he had Football and school commitments,  though our hearts were with the family, we went on. Moving to  Friday night light action…. Though not as “happy” of an outcome as the previous week Easton still played great!  And I’m certain that I’m not biased at all…. I saw with mine own eyes his blocks that  let the touchdowns through, and I saw the three guys  holding him when he was on  defense and got the flag and a 1st down for us…. You can’t make those things up… well I guess you could but I’m not…  it’s a team sport though and well, they lost as a team..  it was tied up going into the 3rd quarter  but then a really painful turnover cost us  basically 2   touchdowns… combine that with a  terrible, horrible, really awful  call by what had to have been one of the replacement NFL refs  that made the entire stadium  booooo over ( and I’m typically a really good sport and frown on booing  well, even I  stood up and booed my brains out LOL) well we lost the game….as usual I waited up for E to  get home and we talked about the game,  he claimed he “didn’t care” but I  know he  does…all I can do is make sure he knows how  proud of him and how well I thought he played… like I said it’s a team sport and when half the team isn’t there mentally in the second half   you can either  let it go  or you can try with everything you have to help the team get into it ,  you can lead, follow or get outta the way…. trying to help him understand  leadership a little more because I can picture him as  a  leader in the future, he’s  got the right stuff for it…. A good sense of humor, don’t sweat the small stuff attitude and a good head on his shoulders, those are a good start and I’m sure he’ll get there, like I said I couldn’t be  more proud of him!!     So off to bed  we go after our midnight snack and chat but I can’t seem to sleep… hmm is it the evil bed?  Nah it’s been behaving lately ( though I still don’t fully trust it) ..is it too much caffeine? Nah I’m immune  to that  stuff, I work at Starbucks for cryin’ out loud and  invest in 5 hour energy on top of that LOL, so what could it be keeping me up????  Well my wife is out of town so it’s Dukie and I….I guess I just had a lot on my mind…well eventually sleep  found me  and  I got some rest, I needed it  because Saturday was gonna be  huge!! Christy and Tyler are coming Home HOOORAY!! But that means I have to clean the house  YIKES…. And it’s also  Sarvey day!!

Part 6 – Return of the Rain

After 81 days of freakish dryness in the pacific Northwest, the  skies opened and the rains appeared.  Along the  south east shore of Lake Washington “Dad” Eagle is perched high up in a Sitka Spruce tree near the  mouth of the  Cedar River. He’s  ready for some  break-fish ( slang for breakfast for Bald Eagles)  and this spot at this time  of year is  PRIMO!!  From his  perch he can  see at least 50  different salmon ready for the  catching, along with ducks and gulls  and  many  salmon that have completed their  spawning cycle  and are just getting “ripe” along the edges of the  lake.  He  spies his big,  beautiful  mate  in a cottonwood tree 500 yards down the   shore eyeing a flock of  pigeons in Gene Coulon  Beach park…today they are “eyrie”  shopping……He’s looking for  “the perfect spot, and she’s  waiting for him to   show her the options…..  going to be a busy day  so he drops off his high perch  and he’s  decided to  belay  hunting for the day and  go for the  “easy”  meal, he  glides to the shoreline, lands next to the freshest  of the sockeye salmon that has completed it’s  cycle and now floats belly up along the edge of the lake.  Dad Eagle steps out into the chilly water and  grabs the fish’s tail, drags it onto the beach and  begins to  dine.  With a  crop full of  salmon he stuggles a bit to  get airborne  but makes it to  a doug fir to feak  his beak and  preen  and grab a quick nap before  going on the  hunt for a new  nest locale…..

Meanwhile in my  house in southeast king county , WA   I wake up to the pitter patter of  rain on the window, haven’t heard that for awhile,  but as  a  Pacific Northwesterner you have to learn how to do  EVERYTHING in the rain,  it just makes the days where you don’t have rain that much more beautiful and special…it’s  still beautiful here even when it rains, it’s the rain that keeps it  green and  gorgeous!  So up and at ‘em  we’re burning grey wetness …. Because  Chirsty’s  been outta town and I was  in training all week, poor Dukie  only had his  sisters the  kitties (Nala, Roxy and Sparky)  to play with during the  day  so  he got  played with and  walked by me   when I got home in the evening’s  but I still felt badly so even though it’s  Sarvey Day , and even though Christy is coming home  tonight I  still wanted to spend the morning with him, so we played and wrestled and enjoyed each other’s  company for  a bit  until Easton  got up,  Teenage boys can sure do some sleepin’ I tell ya , actually it wasn’t  too bad  he had a  late night  from the foosball  game and 9ish isn’t really that late, but it seems like it when I’ve been up since 5…. So between playing with Dukie and getting caught up on my NCIS(es) – side note I’m really mad that they made NCIS:LA I was really hoping that would be  a bad show but of course it’s  great so  I have to watch it  too…. Last thing I need is more sitting in front of the idiot box  time…  but oh well…so anyway  I  hand  over Dukie  duties to Easton and  I head out to go to Sarvey at 9:30,  the usual  Safeway  Meat specials ,  some turkey legs  ( Freedom loves  Turkey Legs),  paper towels and  bleach and  then off to the hardware store….you don’t normally go to the  hardware store  Mikey, what are you doing? Well  let me tell ya…  you’ve all used  those  old school  metal  nozzels on  garden hoses? You know the ones  that look kinda like a gun?  But the  trigger is  a 3” long flat metal grip thing that you push with your palm while gripping the  nozzle?  It has the screw on the  back where the  hammer pulls back on a  gun,  the screw is supposed to make  the stream  tighter or  wider and you can never ever remember which way and you have to try it 5 times  before you eventually end up putting it right back where it was to start with? Yeah  I hate those nozzels… you know why? (WHY MIKE)  because it never fails that I get pinched  by them.. does anyone else have this issue? Or is it just because  I have  big ham hock like  hands?  But it seems  everytime I use those nozzels I get pinched right  between my thumb and index finger,   on the inside of the index knuckle  …. And   if you drop the hose it’s  like  dropped  toast that  defies all physics and always lands butter and jam side  down, well the  nozzle always lands trigger down and  sprays you ( or your lead/partner) somewhere…..yeah I’m buying a bunch of new nozzels for   Sarvey to replace those fricken frackin’ pieces of ….. .ok sorry…..  get out a the hardware store with my bag o’ nozzels and hit the road…  Washingtonian’s you’d think would  know how to drive in the  rain right? Well  think again…. It hasn’t rained for 81 days… well after day 3 of no rain they all forget how to drive in it I think…. So  I’m  weaving in and out of  the  “rookies”   and listening to 70’s/80’s classic  rock  on the radio this morning…..well  you know me  music “speaks to me”….  my kids can attest  that I have a “song” or a  “book”  for every possible situation LOL…. As  a kid  Tyler , our oldest,  had  gotten in some hot water with us  and part of his “punishment”  was  me making him read a Richard  Bach book – “Running from Safety”   a story about   the author going back and  teaching his younger self lessons, a  good book… and we made Tyler write a book  report for us along with a written explanation of what he did wrong, why it was wrong and how to avoid doing it  in the future etc…  I don’t know if he read the whole book but he did the “assignment” and we had a  nice  family meeting discussing the  report and the lessons… well  that’s  just to show you that  I have a book or a song for anything and that “list” is always being added to…. Today was no different.. driving  up thehiway  a song came on the radio, I’ve heard this song  probably thousands of times since I came out in 1981..the song is  Once in a lifetime by the talking heads…. Never really paid much attention to it, I know the words but never “listened” to it well on this drive I  didn’t either at first, until  one line  caught my attention:  You may ask yourself, where does that highway lead to?

You may ask yourself, am I right, am I wrong?  You may say to yourself, my God, what have I done? Hmm   well this hiway leads to  Sarvey I said to myself, and  am I right or wrong? This can’t be wrong… and what have I done? I’ve changed how I see the world….. well I  rewound the song ( I have a DVR like  radio so I can save up to 4 mins of music and   skip or  rewind etc..)  and listened, really listend to the words and  tried to apply the song to me… here are all the lyrics:

You may find yourself living in a shotgun shack

You may find yourself in another part of the world

You may find yourself behind the wheel of a large automobile

You may find yourself in a beautiful house with a beautiful wife

You may ask yourself, well, how did I get here?

Letting the days go by, let the water hold me down

Letting the days go by, water flowing underground

Into the blue again after the money’s gone

Once in a lifetime, water flowing underground

You may ask yourself, how do I work this?

You may ask yourself, where is that large automobile?

You may tell yourself, this is not my beautiful house

You may tell yourself, this is not my beautiful wife

Letting the days go by, let the water hold me down

Letting the days go by, water flowing underground

Into the blue again, after the money’s gone

Once in a lifetime, water flowing underground

Same as it ever was, same as it ever was, same as it ever was, same as it ever was

Same as it ever was, same as it ever was, same as it ever was, same as it ever was

Water dissolving and water removing

There is water at the bottom of the ocean

Remove the water, carry the water

Remove the water from the bottom of the ocean

Letting the days go by, let the water hold me down

Letting the days go by, water flowing underground

Into the blue again, after the money’s gone

Once in a lifetime, water flowing underground

Into the blue again, into silent water

Under the rocks and stones, there is water underground

Letting the days go by, into silent water

Once in a lifetime, water flowing underground

You may ask yourself, what is that beautiful house?

You may ask yourself, where does that highway lead to?

You may ask yourself, am I right, am I wrong?

You may say to yourself, my god, what have I done?

Letting the days go by, let the water hold me down

Letting the days go by, water flowing underground

Into the blue again, after the money’s gone

Once in a lifetime, water flowing underground

Into the blue again, into silent water

Under the rocks and stones, there is water underground

Letting the days go by, into silent water

Once in a lifetime, water flowing underground

Same as it ever was, same as it ever was, same as it ever was, same as it ever was

Same as it ever was, same as it ever was, same as it ever was, same as it ever was

Time isn’t holding us, time isn’t after us

Time isn’t holding us, time doesn’t hold you back

Time isn’t holding us, time isn’t after us

Time isn’t holding us…

Letting the days go by, letting the days go by, letting the days go by, once in a lifetime

Letting the days go by, letting the days go by, letting the days go by, once in a lifetime

Well   while listening to it I thought to myself  this  can apply to me ,  to me it means live  life for now, for today, it may be gone in a second, don’t sit around waiting for tomorrow to come,   do what you  can today.  Everyday is a once in a lifetime chance for  me to  make a difference,  and I’ve  gotten to do some one in a lifetime things that have   made my life with my beautiful  wife and family so special and  meaningful…. so let’s continue on with the  day  and make it another once in a lifetime kind of day!  I get to Sarvey and unload the goodies, go check in  with the lead and  then head into the main lounge area to put my water in the  fridge… as I  enter the  building  sitting around the table is a  group of 8 or 10 people  and I hear accents that I recognize as being from the  middle east..interesting but sitting at the table is the  Executive Director of  Sarvey and the  Lead Rescue Tech, the Office Manger and  others that I don’t know so I sneak in and  put my  water away and sneak out trying not  to interrupt and  get to work…on my way out of the  main building over to the rehab building the office manager runs out and says hi, and how glad she is to see me  (made me feel special, thanks “J”!) they are super short- handed today!! YAY  I get to spend more time with  more Wildones, I  know I’m  weird and some of you may say  crazy, but   I just can’t get enough  of being in the enclosures with wild animals,  doing my part to help them  heal so they can be free….ok  onto what you’re hear reading for…  the down and dirty ( and today the soaking wet to boot) !  there’s some type of  educational event today so a  few of the local educational birds are  gone ..Like Askate the Eagle and Ista my favorite Falcon…well her flight still needs  cleaning so  in  I go,  yuck bucket, scrub bucket , hose and rake… give it a  nice  deep cleaning since she’s not home, she can come home to a nice surprise , all ladies like that right? To come home to  the “surprise”  of a    super clean house…I wrap  that up and move one to “Arty’s”  flight,  we have a  lovely chat, especially me telling him how messy he is.. but mostly we talk about  trust…we’re building it together he and I, it’s a process that takes  time, patience and commitment, I’ve got all of those and  hopefully so  does Arty….there’s a zoologist coming  next week to “evaluate” him and see if he can be used as an Educational  bird or what will happen to him next…..don’t worry I’m fighting for him and  will keep  you all updated, I tell him I love him and  thank him for letting me  clean and for all his  great progress in our  trust building.   Up next for me is   the big Eagle flight….today there are  2 Juvie Eagles  the  turkey vulture and  my friendly neighborhood osprey.  I  drain the big concrete pond, and scrub it out and start it refilling  while I  do my  walkabout picking up  parts and feathers, ducking as  I get dive bombed by the  Juviee eagles I(LOVE IT)  the TV and the Osprey  are  ed birds but the two juviees are”wild” and  will hopefully be released soon  one of them is the juviee that was being “hunted” In my last write up… guess she was moved back here for more flying practice and she’s  really good at it!!  But  because they are “wild”  I can’t talk to them or do anything to  build trust with them, they need to hate me and be scared of me,  but also don’t want to  stress them out at all either.. so it’s a fine line…well  I then get to “scrubbing” as you can imagine  this combination of  raptors  can do quite a  good job of “Painting” if you ever need a fresh coat of  greenish white slime color on your walls at home just leta  couple  eagles, and osprey and a  turkey vulture loose in our home for a day, they will take care of  painting your place…so  off to  scrubbing I go,  gotta put some elbow grease into this ..I work my  way arouind the walls  and  am about halfway done  my  back is to the  door and  I’m really scrubbing down and sweating my butt off it’s also  pouring rain  so  I look like a  red faced drowned rat from a  Sci-Fi movie where the rat was sent to the sewer near the nuclear  plant and grew  to over 6 feet long walks on two legs and has a pot belly….when all of  a sudden, “are you mike”  DAMMIT  you care the  SH$#out of me…  it’s not funny to sneak up on someone in an Eagle flight….  So I catch my breath and  it’s probably for the best that I’m  soaked because I may have peed  a little…. Yes sir I’m Mike how can I help you sir?  I’ve seen him around so I know his first name is Mark,  and that he’s the guy that “built”  the place, literally he’s the  “carpenter”  of the  place  and a darn good one too!  Well he says I hurt my back  ( boy can I relate to that) and  I need  a bunch of  gravel brought up , can you help me? I hate to ask  but I just can’t do it… Of course I can help, I’m  happy and honored to help you , thanks, for asking me!  where’s the gravel?   It’s at the bottom of the driveway..Sure no problem,  you need it now  or  can I finish  up in here?   OH anytime is fine,  wrap up in in here and then come find me… yes sir, will do… thanks for the scare… sorry he says I didn’t mean to scare you was just being quiet for  the birds… ( uh huh likely story)…..so I wrap up  the  giant Eagle flight after another 30 minutes or so  and head out to find Mark… he’s  at the top of the driveway building something  new…. OK Boss, I’m  ready to  get that gravel for ya!  Great  here’s a  shovel and  wheel barrow  I need the  smaller gravel  in the pile at the base of the  driveway… no problem!! (the driveway is potholes   with a little gravel here and there, it’s a    40 degree  incline and  about 300 yards long. Off I go….weeeeeee bumping down the hill chasing a  wheelbarrow  is fun! But man this is gonna suck coming back up… oh well it’s for the  Wildones!  Scoop and dump the  gravel into the wheelbarrow… hmm  that’s awfully heavy  I shouldn’t have put that much in it… oh well  that’s one less trip I’ll need to make right?  Sure….ok so  up the hill I start….  I wish I had  4 wheel  drive…. But sadly I just have my  two foot drive diesels ( my  two feet, I call ‘em my diesels,   deee-el get me here, and dees-el  get me  there….dees-el get me anywhere) …up I go , one foot in front of the other, don’t stop  cause   you’ll end up  back at the bottom buried in gravel… think about marching in the military..hup  two three four, pick it up two three four…. Eventually I make it to the top and it levels off, I don’t want to  get over to where he is and him see  that I can’t  breathe  and that I  struggled…  so I pull off to the side and   wipe off as much of the sweat and rain that I can, take a few to catch my  breath and then casually  work my way over to where he is an needs the  gravel…  thanks,  no problem I say.. where do you want it?  Over there.. OK no problem….whew ok time for a quick break I  go inside  to get a  new  scrub bucket ready  and to my surprise there’s a  domestic white duck in the bathtub…swimming around and having a grand old time…who are you cutie?  Howard someone says  from behind me.. I laugh hahahah Howard the duck  cute.. yeah  he came to us after being attacked by a  coyote ,he’s got some  injuries but is healing well , we’re just getting him rehabbed so he can go  back to his home on  a farm..I then wander back to Medical and  see  the  Rescue Tech and the  Shift lead working on  a possum…  hey guys, need a hand? Sure come on in…. sweet, I love the medical stuff… this guy  just needed some sub-cue  fluids ad meds , he was  struck by a car and  found somewhere injured, malnourished and dehydrated..  he’s been there for a bit and is  being rehabbed. We get the fluids and meds onboard and  get him back to his enclosure for more  quiet healing time, I then  take a minute to  ask the  question about the “meeting”  that I  walked in on earlier…  and it turns out  it was visitors from  Turkey that are trying to start up a  place like Sarvey there and came here to  learn from Sarvey on how to do  it!  It goes to show what a  great place that SWCC is that other countries want to use  our ( WOW it’s never going to get old  to say “Our” when talking about SWCC)  facility as an example….. ok well  it’s time for me to get crackin’ on the outside stuff again… into Pine Alley for me this time,   I clean the flight of  a Red Tailed hawk and thank him for  letting me clean, next up is  a Kestrel she’s  not pleased to see me ( good thing)  and she’s  flying all around as I’m cleaning up her flight, I’ve got to keep an eye on this one  while cleaning or I might end up  with talons in my  neck and  a beak in my ear….she’s gonna do just fine in the wild, hope she gets  released soon!  As I  thank her and lave her flight I open the door and there are  3 teenage girls just outside the door and I know they all heard me  thanking the Kestrel  and were looking at me  kind of odd, like   what’s up with old dude  talkin’ to  a bird?  Like totally  weird. And in walks  the office manager, keep in mind my appearance at this point, soaking wet, dirty, sweaty and stanky…the office manager say oh ladies  meet Michael  he’s got the “bug”  he’s one of our super-volunteers… I say hi to the  them and ask  why they are here…   this is a new  volunteer orientation  session, the office manager says,  OH  great!! Welcome!!  Yep this place will get in your blood  and  you’ll be hopelessly  addicted  very quickly, they  smiled and  moved on in their tour  and I hope I didn’t scare them away LOL… I move on.. back to the list..  what’s  next? This time of year  things really slow down the   animals that could  be released  are mostly gone, and it’s rehab animals and new injuries and  animals that are going to have to “winter over”   and continue their rehab until they can be released in the spring….so most all of the outside work is done, but  Baxter still needs  his enclosure cleaned, and he needs to be fed…  yippee I love Bax… he’s on a  “diet”  at the moment  I guess he’s  gotten a little chubby…so I take him  his  hunks of steak, grab a  big garbage bag , my yuck bucket and scrub bucket, rake, and “pooper scooper”  and hose… and off I go to see  Bax….  As I approach he give me a  sweet meow-ish  sound  and  purrs up a storm… oh man I sooo want to pet you and  play with you Baxter …. But  I can’t….. so I get everything  ready and put his steaks in the guillotine  section,  raise the  guillotine and let him in, he’s   hungry so  no issues this time, in he goes. I drop the  guillotine and in I go to clean.. he’s making lots of nom nom yummy noises enjoying his steak and I’m  picking up  poo from the pool, the marked straw and  “parts”  around… scrubbing his  water dishes and “perches” picking up the nasty straw and adding some new…  all clean and he’s  way done with his  steaks so he’s  just eyeballin me  ready to get out of the guillotine  section…. Ok buddy  let’s trade places… out I go with  all my stuff and trade places with him.. clean up the  guillotine  area and  thank Baxter…  time to pack it up  I have to  get home and clean me, clean the house,  and get to the   airport to pick up  Christy and Tyler… so I hit the  road and as I’m pulling out I have to slam on the brakes!… need to interrupt here to tell you the ABS on my truck is  broken and I haven’t   had the time or money to fix it… it’s not “unsafe” really…. It’s an old truck…it just means that  if I “lock em up” that it skids rather than the ABS  engaging and  stopping a skid,   but it’s OK I teach the class on Emergency Vehicle driving so I can handle a skid….so  back to leaving Sarvey… I had to slam ‘em on…eeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrreeeeeeeekkkkkk steer into the skid…release the brake, roll through reapply…eeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrk  jerk to a stop… whew OK  we’re good  WAS THAT A  PEACOCK??? Pull over  to the side and  look back… sure enough I just about ran over a  giant male Peacock heading up the road to Sarvey LOL….  Amazing!  the  critters you see out there… guess  all the  Wildones and the  tame ones  know that it’s a  place of love and caring for  critters so  when they need a feel good moment they just go visit there … just like me…..

Part 7 – Nestoration Celebration

Soaring  high over Lake Washington  during a  break in the weather the Dad  Bald Eagle sees a prospective nest tree up the cedar river, he sets his wings to a slow glide down to 500 feet  , crosses over  what humans know as I-405  and he knows as the “danger zone for low flying”  he flies just above stall  speed and  alights on a fat  Y branch in a tall cottonwood.  He scans the area all around. The River is  within site nice “crook in the tree”  the leaves are  yellow and green  but mostly still attached for now, so He can tell that even with full bloom this spot will  have good visibility, stability  as there’s a cliff  across the way to protect from Northern and western winds, it’s a  nice tall, old and healthy tree… it’s in our territory  so no other eagles around, perfect spot for our new  nest ….better go  get the missus and  get her approval… he drops  off the Y and follows the River a bit before catching a thermal and riding it up and up and up….he sees his mate  out over the lake and  flies  out to greet her. With a mid air squeee, a  wag of his wings  and a twitch of his head  says “follow me I got something I wanna show you”……she falls in next to him and they fly together to the  cottonwood  that he thinks will make a  safer spot for  their new nest… she’s a bit aloof and wary …. She flies around it and above it, she  soars high and looks at the entire  area..this might work out ok but I have to make him  sweat it a little…after last year’s debacle ….but eventually she  meets him on the Y and  give her approving sqwak  saying that she accepts this location for their nest!! WOO HOO time to celebrate! Dad sails down to the cedar river  and snags a young Chinook out of the water   still flapping it’s tail he  takes it to the crook of the tree , where their nest is soon to be, and shares the meal with  his bigger mate…..

Part 8 – Return of the Fam

As I am driving home  I catch a glimpse of a pair of eagles in a tree along the Cedar River on SR 169  and smile ahh nothing better than seeing Eagles in the wild!!  But I have to get home to Dukie and  a hot shower, I’m  soaked  to the bone and filthy, but BUT I made it out of Sarvey without any injuries WOO HOO!!! Sore muscles and back but no blood today LOLOLOL… I make it home and  get cleaned up , just so I can get all  sweaty again  cleaning the house..   YIKES it’s  almost 7:30 I gotta  leave to pick them up!! Vacuum, dishes  from 3 days as a   couple “bachelors”  run the  dishwasher,  make the bed throw a  load of laundry in so the basket isn’t  over flowing…  spray some  smelly stuff that girls like water the dog and feed the  plants….YIKES  backwards…  ok  feed  the  cats and Dukie and water the plants… grab my keys and out the door I went.. back on the road again… this time to Sea-Tac to see muh babybuh … luh muh baybuh…     I  get the text that they’ve landed when I’m  about  5 mnins  away, whew perfect timing fro   a pick up , I normally park and go in  to meet her but  not this time … swing through baggage claim and see them coming out the door YAY  they made!! I pull over to the curb ( I’m in her  car  to pick them up since  it’s much nicer, cleaner and smells  better, plus more room in it for  Tyler and the  luggage)  and get a quick smooch, they  run back inside to  get their luggage, and I make a  “lap” around since “THERE IS NO PARKING OR WAITING ON THE AIRPORT DRIVE YOUWILL BE SHOT AND STRUNG UP AS AN EXAMPLE TO  OTHERS TO DETER FURTHER PARKING AND WAITING ON THE AIRPORT DRIVE, IF YOU LEAVE A BAG UNATTENDED AND WE FIND OUT IT WAS YOU WE WILL ALSO STRING UP YOUR FIRST BORN, IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A FIRST BORN OR IF IT WAS YOUR FIRST BORN THAT LEFT THE HELLO KITTY BAG  WE WILL TERMINATE YOUR ENTIRE FAMILY – THANK YOU SKYNET OUT” ..So  around and around I go where I’ll stop only  I  know….. I see them come out and pull to the curb… jump out and squeeze my sweetie and   give Tyler a big hug and then  “clap” him on both arms….  While they were in San Diego he went and got a tattoo  ( a heart with mom in it , awe…..how sweet)  but it need  to be  “set” properly and I wasn’t sure which shoulder it was on so “CLAP” on both …I know it’s mean but it’s a rite of passage for a man, if you’re gonna  get a tattoo  and you’re my kid you better be  ready for me to make sure the ink is set good…..so unfortunately he has to work in the morning which means we have to take him  back to his new  house  in Darington, WA ( way up past  Arlington where Sarvey is) it’s  now 9 PM and  pouring rain…. It’s been a long dy and now I get to drive all the way  back up there…. We make it of course and  we get out of the  car and  hugs in the rain saying our goodbyes to Tyler, we’re so proud of the decisions he’s making lately , he’s really turned out well, saying goodbye is always hard… we don’t get to see him anywhere nearly enough… well I’m ready for bed but we have another 2 hour drive home…if you’re  counting   I’ve been in the car/truck for 5 hours so far today….well  I go to get in to drive and  Christy sweetly says I’ll drive home honey  you’ve been  on the go all day… awwwwe so sweet thank you I say in my head,  out loud though it’s no no honey it’s ok  I don’t mind… no really she says  give me the keys LOL…. So I hand them over and  pour myself into the heated passenger seat and nearly pass out… but I stay awake for  her,  flying takes a lot out of you too especially all that arm flapping…. So my job now as “navigator” is to get us down off of the mountain and to the freeway  so we can head home…we get off the mountain and down onto the main road  (Hwy 530) and there are  at LEAST  50 police cars  flying  down the road, one after another, after another….as soon as we   get back on the road here comes another one lights a blazing and  sirens blaring and we have to get over ( move right for sirens and lights people!!!)  well one of my “other” hobbies is  running  a couple websites for  scanner feeds from my house … I run  one for Southeast King County Fire and EMS, and one for Eastern King County Fire and EMS,  well my  buddy who lives up north runs   a couple  for  Snohomish county Fire/EMS and also  for Police….  So I remote into his server  from my phone and pipe the  audio into her  car stereo and we can hear the whole thing going down….  High speed car chase on  this scary to begin with road, in the pouring rain  at 11 at night…   had we been 5 minutes later coming down the hill we  would have been smack dab in the middle of the mess  as they were only about 1 mile behind us…chasing the “perps” towards us….. all the cops that had  been flying by us were  trying to set up  road blocks and  stuff to stop the car…but  as we listened one officer   got in position to do the pit maneuver  ( where the  cop car   taps the quarter panel of the  outlaws vehicle and spins them out) ..we hear the crash on the radio and then a  foot pursuit and a  call for aid  for  passengers in  the wrecked car..  well that’s my  “bailiwick” so after listening to theK9 unit take down the bad guy who ran on foot I switched the  radio over to the  EMS  side of the call and  the units being dispatched … sounded like 3  victims two passengers in the car with injuries  from the crash and the  driver who fled on foot with crash injuries and “K9” injuries… I’ve been on a number of K9 Cop  injury calls and  man  don’t ever run from those dogs  LOL….even  though  they are criminals the injuries those dogs can deliver are  stunning…. And you don’t want them I assure you!  So we  finish listening to the “cool call” and  switch back to the radio and make our way home… well with a quick run through  Jack in the Box for  a sourdough jack and  monster tacos…..( not the easiest to eat an drive with by the way)  we make it home around 12:30 and  unloaded the   luggage and  I think I was asleep  before I even made it to bed……. And I  had another  big day ahead of me  the next day…. I haven’t told you yet, because  you would have just skipped ahead and missed out on  Easton ,Tyler, Christy, Aunt Bea and Uncle Joe… and those are  very important for me to share with you  that I didn’t want to spill the beans on this next bit……

Part 9 – Sweet release

Sunday morning arrives  super  quickly  the  forecast is for high winds and sideways rain..normal  Seattle weather.. ..but  the  Eagles on the Cedar River  aren’t aware of what meteorologists say…they  can feel the  weather coming and know they need to grab a bite before they have to hunker down for the day…off they  go into the wild  grey yonder flying high over the trees….grab some  easy Chinook breakfish on the lake shore , up to the  trees to preen and plan  their nest building activates that will keep them busy for the next two weeks…Dad  Eagle  takes flight to look for the first  branches  to use for  their nest   as he flies over what men know as Gene Coulon Beach park  he spies a  dirty blue man thing that he recognizes from  a  time in the past , the one with the  not unpleasant sounds that  led him to his  offspring that was trapped near the mountains and the big salt water……

If you recall my last   “story”,   there was an Eagle in it ( what do you mean there’s always an Eagle involved in my stories? Ok you’re right….) well this was the Juvie Eagle that  got caught in the  cross members and  hadn’t yet successfully hunted… I had spoken to Sarvey to check up on her earlier in the week  and it turns out that she wouldn’t hunt the  rat ( Guess they were just too good of friends and  no matter how hungry she was she wouldn’t eat him)… so  being the  amazing  rehabilitators that they  are up there they decided to try a different tactic,  this  Eagle  had been born  and imprinted on South  Lake Washington, with rivers feeding it there are  fish  aplenty…. So this  eagle is probably used to  fish  for fare….so  a live trout was  acquired and put into her pool,  and   quick as you can say “sushi”   she was ON IT!  She caught the trout and chowed it down,  a few more practices and  bada-bing she’s a huntress!  With the successful  hunting that means she is ready to go! She can be free!!!  They  moved her back to the  giant flight so she can continue  her socialization and  flying skills and planned the release.. and yep you guessed it the  release is  in the morning on this particular Sunday….  I had made a special request to the Management  and Education   Director at Sarvey to be present  at her release as   between “wrangling” her for  weighing  her , feeding her, cleaning her big flight,  and  the experience I had  with her cleaning her hunting flight I really had a awe, love and respect for this  eagle on top of knowing her “back story”  this was one special  bird to me so could I please assist  or at least be there for her release?  My wish was granted I headed out Sunday morning and headed to Renton for the release,  as I turned off my exit the song “god bless the USA”  came on the radio, I kid you not… what’s  funny is during  and after the Guld War that song was played in every  military bar I was in and we all  always got up  and linked arms in a  giant circle  complete strangers for the most part, but brothers and sisters in arms and sang along… to the point that  by say 1993 or so I was so sick of that song, but it was still very special to me but “everyone” knew it by then and it wasn’t as special , it wasn’t just for  us anymore so when it would  come on the radio  in the late 90’s  I’d change it… maybe it was  because of that or maybe it was because of the war and what I’d given and lost an but also  found who knows…  but this time  I let it play and remembered those special times following the war with all my patriotic brothers and sisters  who had been there and back  and thought about  what I was about to participate in, the release of our national  symbol… it was moving  to me….. so  I turn into the park and  again I kid you not,   a  pure white pigeon  flies  right across the  front of my truck,  there’s no one behind me so I stop  and watch it, it lands on the roof of an out building of some sort and  just looks at me… I don’t know what it  meant if anything but  another special moment for a pure white bird, a peace  symbol  to cross my path  at  that particular time….. so  it’s  10AM  on Sunday  on Lake Washington   I was  there with the Education Director from Sarvey,  two other people who  had won an “auction”  in April  to raise money for Sarvey to participate in a “raptor release”  and  my friend “missmelyn”  from the Raptor Resource Project  Forum who I had gotten permission to invite to watch.   Kestrel  Skyhawk  is the Ed. Director for SWCC and  so she and I unloaded  the juviee in a carrier and  got her over to a  nice grassy area  facing some trees and the lake , her “home turf” …. I stepped  back and readied my  camera, saying my  words of  who I was  dedicating this  release to, I   wish I could have snuck in a smooch for the Eagle but alas I won’t be able to kiss ‘em all….  this ( and all of my Raptor Releases) will  begin with  “for D12”, and then the  other  dedications will follow that…this one in particular was so close in age  and the same  gender  of D12 that it was extremely moving, I’m sure no matter what it would be moving but even more so today…  the  skies had yet to open up and it was just  a pleasant, if grey and  chilly  morning in western, Washington, I dedicated the  release  to D12, the D12 Memorial  Group  and for a  dear friend of mines parents who are both struggling with Cancer and tumors… I wanted to  dedicate this release to them specially,   releases  to me are “healing”  moments and   they  release me , they release my soul,  and just maybe  if I can dedicate them to someone  going through that type of situation then maybe there is some power in the universe that can divert some of that magic to that person or people in need…. That’s my thinking anyway and the reason behind my dedications….and while I wasn’t the one to actually “ open  the gate” to release this  beautiful  Raptor, I was  part of her rehabilitation and  was  part of her release  so I  get to do that  in my opinion…  so where was I oh the dedication  well I no  sooner get the words out then the  carrier is opened and  out she comes in all her glory,   two steps and  up up and away with nary a look  back… she glides immediately up and  curves south around a  large  copse of  trees  and is gone…. Less than 30 seconds  and gone…..

Part 10-  Meet the  Parents.

High above the park atop  an old growth Cedar , Dad  Eagle’s  binocular  vision sees  another Eagle come  rocketing out of a  man-box  and up into his territory, his air space, he and his mates hunting  ground… and that will not do!!….  He immediately launches off his perch and  makes straight for the  invader!!   As he approaches, squeeing  his warning  call he suddenly  recognizes   this eagle as his offspring   ahhh the blue man thing must have led his  young one back to  him…. he  approaches the young one and they  have a brief mid air  talon lock  that serves as  both  a  warning to  the young one that  she needs to find her own territory as well as  a  hey there, glad you made it home!! Mom Eagle  has been watching this display and  appears  from  high above  in a sharp dive, she   blows  right by the  two eagles  squeezing her joy as she passes  immediately recognizing her offspring…  yes young one you need to go find your own territory but we are glad that  you made it, we had though you  had perished with your sibling…. You’ve learned to hunt I see and  fly , you are ready…we’re getting prepared to  do a better job  this year with your future brothers and sisters…and keep them out of harms way  as best we can  until they too are as grown as you and ready to be on their own… might we  suggest that you  head east a few miles up the Cedar River, there’s  some very nice wilderness and several lakes and rivers for you  that we know   are available  and maybe you’ll  find a mate in a year or two….. well Mom and Dad  it’s been great to see you , really it has but I’m kinda  done with this area, I’ve had some  rough times… between falling out of the  nest , getting chained up  to a post, captured by humans and locked up for months I’m outta here…. Love you  both and farewell….. she  hits a thermal and heads due south over Renton, WA and banks to the south west and eventually is out over Puget Sound , she continues on until she find  beautiful island to  roost on  for the afternoon nd  just  relax and enjoy  her freedom,  she’ll spend the next    days  just exploring and enjoying life as a young , free eagle….

Part 11 – a Walk in the park

Back  on  the muddy  ground at  the park,   the couple who won the auction and Kestrel  have left. It’s “MissMelyn” and I …we  take a walk hoping to catch  a glimpse of  the young beauty  somewhere… we  never do find her, but  we saw lots of Chinook  “carcasses” floating in the lake , as well as  gulls and ducks  a plenty  we know the  salmon are spawning and  dying off this time of year and will provide a fine food supply for  this young wildone so we are happy that  she’s gogt a  good  fighting chance.  MissMelyn  gives me a lovely gift of a bracelet  that you see  people  wearing for different causes I like the livestong bracelet)  that she designed, that says “all is  good in the cottonwood”  and  raptorresource.org  on it,   there’s no way it will fit my fat wrist but it’s a  very sweet gesture and will  go into my collection of  special “eagle”   items.  Well it’s time for me to  go  I have to get up to Sarvey again today  because I’m signed up for a  class to learn how to be on the Educational  team ( the people you see with Raptors on their arms that give presentations  for the public and  schools and stuff) ….. I didn’t meet the requirements  to be on  the ed team  but I still wanted to take the class to  learn  more and  get experience for when I  do meet the requirements…  they only offer it once a year at the most so I begged to  be allowed to attend ….farewell MissMelyn  great to see you again!

Part12 – Red Tailed  Debacle…

I get on the road to SWCC again  and yep I have to  stop and get more stuff  because  of that promise I made to myself   (not to ever show up empty handed) so more paper towels,  bleach  and meat, and something special this time… an  18 pack of eggs…  eggs you say?  Why would you do that?  Well  as you may know birds  eat egg shells  to get calcium  and minerals they need…  but that’s not the  real reason I go them… if you recall Arty likes eggs whole…… and he’s my buddy… we’re building trust and  learning to work together so my next “thing”  is that I’m  going to always  bring him an  egg…so when he  sees me , he’s going to associate me with  treats haha…. So I get up to SWCC and  unload everything,  a couple of the other volunteers say wow you always bring goodies for us…  , it’s nice that  people notice that. I never would point it out other than in my  writings for  the people that read it who live vicariously through me , those that don’t have the   rehab centers  within reach to volunteer at  or  those that are past the point in their lives wher they can do the physical work…. So    put the stuff away and  I grab an egg and  head out in the rain,  by now  the meteorologists guess has come to pass, windy rainy nasty northwest weather,   head straight over to Arty’s  flight, he was hunched up in  corner but when he saw me come around the corner he flew up  and onto the  netting  right by the door , he probably does that  anytime he sees someone coming but  it made me say  awwwe hi Arty… glad to see  you tooo and brought you a present..  in I go  and show him the egg, we have a talk about trust with him following the egg with his head as I talk with my hands… and  I tell him  ok  Arty up on  your perch  and I’ll give you the egg..  oh up there? Ok  he seems to  understand and  flys to his  feeding perch and  bobs his head like “did  do  good dad huh did I? can I have the egg now huh huh huh?”… good  boy arty here you go I hold out the egg and  he gently takes it from my hand , flies around the  flight with it  in his beak and  then  does a hover and  drop close to my feet  he hops down and slurps up the yummy insides  and looks upu at me with  yolk hanging from his  beak as if to say you want some? I’ll share with you mister… nah  thanks though Arty I have to get some work done  before class… but I’ll be back shortly to  clean up your flight…. So back inside I  go  and  grab the to-do list before class and see what I can do..head back out into the  rain and  clean Arty’s and a few other flights and then it’s  school time!! I throw on a  dry shirt, grab my  pad o’ paper and ink pen, along with  flowers and cookies…. As part of m  “safeway stop” I grabbed some flowers to give Kestrel  to thank her for  letting me  help with the Eagle release earlier and the cookies I just   thought would be nice for the class…. Well turns out there were only 4 of us in  the class 2 of the four had “prior experience” and or secret advantages…( one was the wife of one of the current educator team leads).  So we went through all the  course material and  discussed all the things we needed to discuss   for the classroom portion of the  day  ( I’m not giving you all the details of that because it’s  secret squirrel  stuff!!  You  won’t get all the magicians tricks from me!!)  then we got to some hands on. Bring out the  jesses! A quick lesson on  two different type then  we get turned loose on the  practice  legs ( 2 two by fours with dowels for legs and  sharpie for  talons)   no problem I got it 1st try on both styles… ok now do it one handed…right handed…uh oh… I’m  right handed yes, but  I had an “incident” many years ago that cut the  tendons and nerves in my right wrist so I limited dexterity  and  feeling in my right hand, I hide my handicap well  but  for  things like this  well it just wont work…so I pull Kestrel aside and explain my “sitch” , well she says  some birds will let you jess them on their perch, some have to be on the arm and  some it has to be left arm (which means I’d have to use my right hand) but some birds are ok being on the right arm  and I can jess with the left…we’ll figure it out ..not to worry she assures me… ok  well  my confidence is  knocked down a  bit because of my dumb ( I call it my dead or lame hand) hand….but it’s never stopped me from doing anything  yet so it won’t stop this just a new challenge. Ok that’s the class….. oh wait there’s one more part we didn’t tell you about … it’s in the rehab building…  so we head over there and go back to a  dowel cage  where  Cetan (pronounced Cheh tahn)  the Red tail hawk has been   moved from her flight  in the education building… we’re going to practice on Cetan here.. she’s flightless and has  a partial wing amputation.  She’s  was  struck by a car and has been at Sarvey since 1995. She’s a patient and mellow  raptor so let’s practice  with  jessing her…here are her jesses….ok   let me back up,  in case you don’t know….when I say jesses  I’m referring to a a combination of a few things. Traditional jesses are made from a single length of leather, and slits are placed strategically along the jess to allow it to be looped through itself and around the ankle of the bird so that it fits comfortably but securely about and just above the tarsus, then a  swivel Is attached along with the leash…. This  type of jess is only allowed to be used on  birds that cannot fly  because of the nature of the  slits,  if a bird that can fly  wears these and gets loose they can get caught up on things and   get injured or worse… so mostly in use  are what are referred to as  Aylmeri jesses which have an  “anklet”  then the “jesses” , the swivel and the leash…  so we’re using  Aylmeri type…the goal is  to have the bird on your arm,  get the  anklets in place run the jesses through them,  add the swivel to the jesses  and then the leash to the swivel  with  one hand.   No surprise in here I’m in a class with 3 ladies ( 4 if you count the instructor) so who wants to go first… I  am willing but I’m old school and ladies go first if they  so desire… the two  with “prior experience”  desire  and put their hands up so  I of course let them go first, they both do a good job and set the bar  a bit too high…  but towards the end  Cetan is  starting to lose patience…. The instructor   asks the next  lady to go and she declines, she wants to practice more….so I’m up… Hi Cetan and both the instructor and I  can tell she’s  really not wanting to  do this again… but we try anyway…( if she  was truly at any risk the instructor wouldn’t have let me try) I’m sure  that, had I  been proficient,  it would have been fine, but this is the  1st time to have a raptor on my  arm.. I have the glove on my left arm and my “dead hand” is going to try to jess ( bad idea on my part) plus we’ve now got an  audience… all the   volunteers and the shift lead as well as  the medical people and  the other people from the class are now packed into the hallway watching Cetan and I , I don’t blame them for watching the Bird she’s gorgeous  but both she and I are nervous which is a  bad combo, I try to  be cool, talking sweetly to her…I  put my gloved arm up into the  cage and offer it to her,s he flutters about a bit and finally  realizes that she probably outta do it so she steps onto the glove… gently I bring her out and to my side, elbow in, hand perpendicular to the floor at a 90 degree angle.  (think  “this is a stick up” and that’s how  my arm is positioned only replace the  gun with a  raptor!!)  so here I am with a  Red Tail Hawk on my arm  the jesses  and anklets in my  right front  jeans pocket,  the  swivel and leash in my right back pocket… grab an anklet an  drop it on the floor (my dead hand dangit) I can’t feel  with my right  thumb, index finger middle finger and half of my left finger, plus my thumb and index finger are joined together by a single tendon that was “left to work with” so I can’t move my  thumb and index finger on that hand independently… A  pain… used to be  really cool way to win money in “tough guy challenges LOL” but that’s another  life story for another time…… back to  Cetan on my arm and anklet on the floor. I look at  the instructor and  ask  can I  squat down and get it? Well  sometimes you have to she says …. But before I  could someone else handed it to me,  I  then pull out the  jess and   fumble around trying to get the anklet on  and the jess through it and  I can tell it’s not going to happen with this  hand, so I ask if  Cetan will tolerate being on my right arm… I don’ t know she says  let’s find out… grrrrrrreat… so someone  finds a  rare right handed  glove.. I put  Cetan back in  the cage  and by now she’s  really fidgety and ready to get back to her own  place I suspect…  well I get the  right handed glove on   and get her  onto it and that’s much more comfortable for me… except for one little detail…the  “parts” I need are  still in my right hand  pockets, front and back…  LOL…ok  so  I finagle  the things out of my front pocket with my   left hand ( looks funky, you try it) but I manage  to do it  before one of the “ladies” has to dig in my pocket  ..awwwwkward  ….so I get the  first anklet on  and  the jess through it …well  for sure now  Cetan has had enough, as I go to  put the anklet on her next leg  she  tries to take off  and   manages to  work her way to the highest point she can which at the moment is my shoulder. ( the glove only goes up to just below my elbow)   I  remain calm,  this is  the third time  I’ve  convinced myself that I could easily withstand being tortured and never give out  the information…. So she works her way up my arm, talons piercing skin with each step , yet I  remain calm and still ( I’m kinda proud of that..) and try to reassure her  but she’s having none of it,  I reach up to  try to get her back down  but she’s got a death grip on my shoulder, someone else reaches up towards her and  she launches off my shoulder and hits the floor… “BIRD OUT” I yell, which si the protocol for when a  birds is loose, it’s   like  general quarters on a Naval Vessel  batten down the hatches and  watch out!!  She skitters  across the floor and just wants to get away… well she gets caught and back onto the glove  but the instructor says let’s move her to  “D”s  glove,   another  educator helping with the class,  and finish jessing her  with two hands … ( a  get back on the horse kinda thing for both  Cetan and I) …so I finish and I  tell Cetan how sorry I am,  then it’s  back medical to  clean up my wounds and then  back  to class to talk some more and wrap up….  Class ends and  even though I  don’t meet the requirements to be on and  Ed team,  Kestrel tells me she’s waiving that and she’s impressed with how I handled myself kn the class ,  if  I attend 3  educational  events and  figure out how to jess with my left hand  solo  and prove it to her  I’m on the team!!! WOW so that was  very  good to hear, but I still felt terrible about  Cetan… so I went into the Ed building and  visited with her for a bit, I told her how sorry I was about stressing her out and that   I’d do better I promised… so  with a bit of a heavy heart and  really kinda  mad at myself  (I don’t like to fail)  I went to get my stuff to head out…  I stopped Kestrel and asked if I could take home a set of jesses and the practice “legs” ..I’d be practicing  a lot!! She asked me for my 1st born if  I didn’t  return it and I agreed, sorry Easton… but not to worry I’m returning it, see I went online and bought  some stuff to make an even better practice  glove!!  I bought  from a taxidermist  “realistic”  Eagle   legs and talons and Hawk  Legs/talons… as well as a handlers glove and my own jesses etc…   but the gloves were really spendy so I’m going to  get long welders gloves  for the  “training aids” that I’m building….  I got the  legs/talons in the mail and tested them out on   my  handlers glove and they are perfect!! So I’m  going to get the welders gloves and mount the legs on the glove so that   I can practice like it’s real with one hand   with an “eagle or  a hawk” on my arm.. rather then holding the pieces of wood in the crook of m arm and trying to do it…   after I’m done, I’ll take them to Kestrel and if she like them  I’ll build more   for them…. But I’ve skipped forward a bit… so I leave  Sarvey Sunday night  pretty upset, I hear a sad song on the radio and  shed a tear or three for  Cetan and the stress I was part of causing her…. Then I  got mad at myself and   made the plans and promise not to do that again to myself this time…. And that I’d practice  my a$$ off… I then cranked up some heavy metal   (Metallica)  to work out the anger on the drive and headed home to my baby for a hug… well a shower and then an hug…….. and everything is  better… I’ve been practicing  and am building the  “trainer glove”, I’ve made flash cards to learn all  about all the education animals and  am attending my 1st Education event in Issaquah, WA  this  coming weekend.  Wish me luck!!
